Online Newspaper vs. Printed Newspaper

Online Newspaper vs. Printed Newspaper

By Definition, a Newspaper serves information and opinions including political events, crime, business, sports, and weather news, etc. Nowadays readers prefer Online newspapers to Printed newspapers. While the online newspaper is gaining massive popularity day by day, printed newspapers are losing their impact on the readers. In this technological era, Online newspapers gradually overtake the impacts and prestige of printed newspapers.

The first difference between online and printed newspapers is in their appearances. Readers can hold a printed newspaper physically in their hands and the warm feelings set the tone to read the news. Meanwhile, Online newspapers could not do the same. Readers must use electronic devices like smartphones, tablets, or Computers to read online newspapers. Those who are not familiar with the latest technology often face issues reading online newspapers. Also, readers can save printed newspapers as their collections which could be a great hobby as well.

To publish authentic and objective news is one of the most fundamental features of newspapers.  Printed newspapers are strictly monitored by the terms and conditions of the regulatory authority. Readers can rely on printed newspapers. One cannot change or modify printed newspapers as it’s already printed. On the other hand, online newspapers often go unmonitored. Contents can be changed or modified anytime. So, maintaining the authenticity and objectiveness of online newspapers could be a challenge.

But considering the cost management, online newspapers would get some advantages. Printed newspapers are not free of cost. Price could be varied depending on which type of newspapers we’re buying. On the other hand, most online newspapers are free of cost. Readers can read them by just visiting the website of online newspapers. Also, one can read multiple online newspapers on a single electronic device while readers must buy multiple copies of printed newspapers in order to read them.

Also, the circulation of printed newspapers is limited. The publishers can print a limited number of copies for an edition. But in case of special occasions printed newspapers often get out of stock.  But there is no limitation of copies for online newspapers. Each reader gets their own digital version of the newspaper so there are no issues of getting out of stock. Online newspapers are eco-friendly as well. A huge number of trees have been cut down to produce enough paper for printed newspapers. The resources needed for the online platform are very little compared to printed newspapers.

Printed newspapers always had their influence, impacts, and prestige. But the way technology is growing and people are getting more and more access to the internet and electronic devices, printed newspapers have to face challenges more than ever.  For this reason, most of the printed newspapers are now introducing their online versions as well. It’s helping them to connect with the readers in a more promising and interactive way. Considering all the perspectives, it’s clear that it will not be very far from now when online newspapers will completely overtake printed newspapers.
